WELCOME!

We are a community of faith driven by the Spirit, led by the laity, and committed to Christian discipleship. Knowing that God holds high expectations for our lives, Wellspring empowers each person on a Christian journey that fosters deep commitment and faithfulness. In order to further His transformation of individual lives, we strive to reveal Christ to each other and the community.
A message from our Pastor
Thank you for visiting our website! Whether this is your first time visiting or you've stopped by many times before, I hope you find the information you seek and that you feel free to join us for our worship services and events.

Our congregation has been a part of the Williamsburg community since 1978 and we care about the lives of those who call James City County home. One of our oldest ministries is being a faithful partner with Eastern State Hospital, spending time and playing bingo with their patients every month. We recognize the link that is woven among us and use God's grand story to weave our lives with Him.

Wellspring UMC's values reflect our belief that each person is a sacred being and part of the Body of Christ. Our communion table is open to all - no questions, no assumptions, no judgement.

I warmly invite you and your family to join us at either of our worship services on Sundays at 8:45am and 11:00am. We offer Sunday School for all ages at 10:00am and a safe and loving nursery for children throughout the morning.

Feel free to visit the Care & Support page of this website to submit a prayer that will be lifted by our prayer team each week. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact our church office by calling 757-258-5008.

Blessings,
Rev. Edward Hopkins

What to expect during your visit

WORSHIP

  1. 8:45AM Worship
    8:45AM Worship
A service more traditional in nature, featuring traditional hymns and our adult choir. All are welcomed to submit a written prayer request to be lifted during the Prayers of the People.
  2. Communion: (by intinction)
    Communion: (by intinction)
Served on the first Sunday of the month at both services; ALL are welcomed to Christ's table. Stephen Ministers are present in the prayer corner to accompany those needing healing prayer.
  3. 11:00AM Worship
A lively blend with music provided by one of Wellspring's contemporary bands; a service with a more contemporary feel. Family Worship service - 11:00am every 3rd Sunday of the month
  4. Prayers of the People
We believe prayer plays a pivotal role in our life as individual seekers of God, and as members of a church body. Everyone has an opportunity to submit a written prayer request to be lifted during both services.
  5. Come as you are
    Come as you are
You might find our 8:45am service a little less casual than our 11:00am service but it's not uncommon to see both jeans or heals at both. Please don't let what you wear keep you away. We're happy you're here.
  6. Fellowship and Coffee
We welcome you where you are - if you are comfortable in introducing yourself during our greeting time, that's great! But if not, that's ok too. Either way, please join us in-between services in our greeting foyer to share in excellent coffee (we have our own Wellspring Blend!) and a snack.

FOR FAMILIES and CHILDREN

Children & Youth Ministry

As part of the baptismal covenant, Wellspring United Methodist Church and its members accept the responsibility to nurture our children in their Christian life. To fulfill this promise, we view children and youth as equal parts of our Christian family.  We are each disciples of the risen Lord, exploring how to weave our story with God's story.

Family Worship is a once a month, abbreviated service to serve families. Children are always welcomed at Wellspring's services, but this special experience encourages their full participation in all aspects of worship and develops their role as a disciple in the world. But it's not just for families. Worshippers of all ages are encouraged to participate to fully live out our covenant as a Christ family.

Worship Bags are canvas totes located on the table at the entrance to the Sanctuary, full of books and quiet activities. Parents are encouraged to take one to their seat for use during worship.

Children's Message is offered to children of all ages; children sit in front with our Pastor to hear the message of the day.

Children's Education (PreK - K) is a fellowship for children  from age 36 months to those in Kindergarten. Children in this class must be potty trained to attend. Classes are available at the  8:45 and 11:00am worship services (children are released to their teacher at the back of the Sanctuary after the Children's Message.) During our 10:10am Children's Education time, Pre-K age children will join children in grades 1-5 to have an interactive lesson.

Children's Education (grades 1-5) are classes designated for children in these age groups to learn bible skills and stories. Class is offered beginning at 10:10am in the Sanctuary. Children meet their teacher in the foyer before the start of class.

Youth Education (grades 6-12)

Nursery

For babies and toddlers up to
age 36 months.
Sundays: 8:35am - 12:00pm

Welcome to Wellspring’s nursery! We are glad to have your child with us in the nursery. It is our goal to provide a safe and caring environment for your child while you are worshipping.
The nursery serves infants to pre-school children up to 36 months of age and is capably and lovingly staffed by a paid Wellspring employee and a trained church volunteer who have successfully passed a background screening and are mandated to comply with our Vulnerable Persons Protection Policy.
Safety is of paramount importance to us. We commit to provide a safe environment for the children and youth of the church community. It is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and youth. Wellspring follows a Child Protection Policy whose purpose is to educate those working with children about the church’s requirements and procedures of staff and volunteers when dealing with children and youth. This policy also serves as a tool to provide information on child abuse and to advise workers of the procedures to be followed if abuse is disclosed. The guidance provided by this policy helps assure children and youth participating in programs and activities at Wellspring United Methodist Church are treated in ways that encourage their healthy growth and development. Our policy can be viewed here.
We pride ourselves on a clean environment, with a bright, cheery atmosphere and choices of both stimulating and quiet toys that are rotated for maximum enjoyment. After each Nursery session, toys that have been used are sprayed and wiped with a mild bleach solution.
Parents/Guardians play a major role in helping to make your child’s experience a positive one. Parents/Guardians are asked to sign in their child at each visit to provide important information to the Nursery staff about how your child is doing that morning and what he/she will need to provide comfort. We provide generic snacks to all our guests [goldfish, animal crackers, juice], so if there are food sensitivities that need to be considered, please provide any specialty snack or drink your child may require. We have a refrigerator to keep bottles and cups cold. Please label all your child’s belongings (diaper bag, cup, jackets, etc.) so that we may return everything back to you at the close of nursery time.  And when it's time for your child to graduate out from Nursery, we partner with the parents/guardians to start the STEP UP program – a transition process to help the child be prepared and successful for the start of their Pre-K Sunday school class.
We look forward to caring for your child!

If you are searching for a Church home, please know that we welcome and desire your membership at Wellspring. You may join in one of several ways:

  • Baptism and Profession of Faith - If you are not a baptized Christian, our Pastor will be happy to discuss the meaning of baptism with you. Confirmation classes for youth are held every Spring.
  • Transfer from Another United Methodist Church - If you currently belong to another United Methodist Church, please mark the attendance sheet “Wish to Join” and you will be contacted by the Pastor. It is not necessary for you to write to your former church for a letter of membership; Wellspring will handle the details of the transfer for you.
  • Transfer from Another Christian Denomination - The process is very much like the one above. If you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the vow made by all persons entering our congregation to support and uphold the United Methodist Church “by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.”
  • Infant/Child Baptism - If you would like to have your child baptized, please call the church office. Our Pastor will meet with you to discuss the meaning of baptism, and how to make this a meaningful celebration for your child.
